Scholarships, awards, fellowship programs
The core program of NMF is the Need-based Scholarships. Offered primarily to first- and second-year medical students, these scholarships are granted on the basis of financial need. NMF scholarships are increasingly important due to escalating cost of medical school and spiraling student debt.
NMF's Merit-based awards recognize outstanding minority medical students, recommended by their medical schools, for extraordinary scholastic achievement, leadership, community service and the potential for outstanding contributions to medicine. Offered primarily to third- and fourth-year medical students.
The NMF Experience-based Fellowship Programs provide special opportunities for students to work hands-on to enhance healthcare delivery in underrepresented communities in local, national, and international settings. These programs match students with mentors, often eminent NMF alumni, and focus on areas of critical clinical/public health need.
